Tired of that infamous icon, the “Proverbs 31 woman”? Weary of plowing through sites devoted to women’s roles, “helpmate/meet” duties, mothering tips, home economics, or how to be saved, sanctified, roll out a perfect pie crust and get your whites “whiter than white”? Me, too. Don’t misunderstand. There’s nothing wrong with those Proverbs 31, “How To,” to-do list type books or sites. I’m just tired of them. In fact, I’m tired of most “women’s ministries.” That’s why I started HEvencense.
The primary focus of this blog – subject to whatever I’m interested in at the moment
– is exploring the delightful, sometimes dangerous and always mysterious realm of Christian womanhood and relationships between Daughters of Eve with candor, hope, and faith. Always a work in progress, right now HEvencense is about:
– Christian women relating to other women as women (good and bad. There are no pat answers here).
– The tender, bold, intricate, amazing and mysterious process of revealing a woman’s HEART (rather than her To Do List).
– Dispeling the notion that Christian femininity = brainlessness, mind-numbing myopia, diminishment, boredom, ingrown-itis, or its twin sister, lockstep-itis. (See October 1 post. Also note that I’ve deliberately avoided defining “Christian femininity.” I’ve left that for you.)
– Revealing the complex beauty of Daughters of Eve
– Inhaling the dual fragrances of faith and femininity a la Ephesians 5:1,2:
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly beloved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
So come on in. Put your feet up. Pour yourself a lemonade, latte or an ice-cold glass of milk. Take a breath. Relax. Soak up an aroma from Above.
Welcome to HEvencense.
