Tired of that infamous icon, the “Proverbs 31 woman”? Weary of plowing through sites devoted to women’s roles, “helpmate/meet” duties, mothering tips, home economics, or how to be saved, sanctified, roll out a perfect pie crust and get your whites “whiter than white”?
Me, too. Don’t misunderstand. There’s nothing wrong with those Proverbs 31, “How To,” to-do list type books or sites. I’m just tired of them. In fact, I’m tired of most “women’s ministries.” That’s why I started HEvencense.
The primary focus of this blog – subject to whatever I’m interested in at the moment
– is exploring the delightful, sometimes dangerous and always mysterious realm of Christian womanhood and relationships between Daughters of Eve with candor, hope, and faith. Always a work in progress, right now HEvencense is about:
– Christian women relating to other women as women (good and bad. There are no pat answers here).
– The tender, bold, intricate, amazing and mysterious process of revealing a woman’s HEART (rather than her To Do List).
– Dispeling the notion that Christian femininity = brainlessness, mind-numbing myopia, boredom, ingrown-itis, or its twin sister, lockstep-itis. (See October 1 post. Also note that I’ve deliberately avoided defining “Christian femininity.” I’ve left that for you.)
– Revealing the complex beauty of Daughters of Eve
– Inhaling the dual fragrances of faith and femininity a la Ephesians 5:1,2:
“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly beloved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
So come on in. Put your feet up. Pour yourself a lemonade or a latte. Take a breath. Soak up an aroma from Above.
Welcome to HEvencense.

I am a christian woman who logged onto your site looking for ideas for the Women’s Ministry at my church. I thought you were a christian group operating in love and in the light of Jesus Christ. But, I discovered that you are a hateful bunch of racists engaging in unsubstantiated, blatant lies about Senator Obama, simply becasuse he is Black. No other reason no matter how you couch your disapproval of him. He is wise, brilliant, and Harvard educated, and has taught on the university level. Yet you lie that he has to be corrected by his staff concerning the middle east, when McCain doesn’t know the difference between a shia and a shiite. Yet you label Senator Obama the “most unqualified candidate for president, ever.” But, they said the same thing about Abraham Lincoln. The Pharisees and saducces said the same thing about Jesus. You need to look deep in your hearts and recognize that you are prejudiced against him because he is African American and that prejudice is flavoring the koolade of hatred and white supremacy that you are drinking. Tell Satan to “get thee behind you.” And until you do, STOP CALLING YOURSELVES CHRISTIANS.
In response to Ollie Williams:
Actually, no mention is made anywhere on this site about Sen. Obama being”Black.” That’s an issue that YOU chose to inject into the discussion, NOT HEvencense.
Also, if Ollie Williams could be bothered to actually read any of the posts listed under the Obama pages, s/he would find that several of the links include articles written by “Black” authors such as Larry Elder and Dr. Thomas Sowell. (So much for your “simply because he’s black” argument – which is just plain silly.)
Also, note that the authors of this site neither endorse nor oppose Obama’s candidacy. They have simply provided a number of links to several different authors from numerous sources to provide a broader spectrum of perspective and analysis to the discussion.
Thankyou, Ollie, for allowing us to post the type of mindset and perspective that underlies the Obama candidacy. (BTW, you’ve misspelled “koolade” – as well as violated our Comment Policy, which is clearly noted at the top of this site.)
Check out our August 25 post for more detail. (We don’t plan to revisit this any time soon as we really have more important things to do!)
I’m new here and just looking through your site.
I don’t know what Daughters of Eve is. Would you clarify please?
Eve = the first woman per the Genesis narrative. Daughters of Eve = women. Hence the blog’s name, “HEvencense,” a combination of “Eve” and the “fragrant offering,” etc. concept a la Eph. 5.
