Bio

d01c0034.jpg

I have four sons, ages rocket scientist to brain surgeon, and a total of five boys. I’ve been married to the oldest one for over 25 years. The smartest member of my family is the dog, Eve, an incurably sociable yellow Lab. My hobbies include journaling, walking the smartest member of my family, vain attempts at staying dry amid Noahic rainstorms, exploring the Great Northwest, and MacEddies. (If you don’t know what the last one is, ask your grandmother. Maybe your great-grandmother.) Besides writing, I enjoy reading, hiking, fishing (except for the fish part), camping (except for the tent part), and swimming (except for the water part). Also snuggling up with the Big Guy and doing most anything other than laundry — not necessarily in that order. Other high-priority pursuits include: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, German chocolate, white chocolate, chocolate with almonds and hot chocolate.

Favorite Movies:

Gone With the Wind, The Sound of Music, Ben Hur, The King and I, The Christmas Box, Sleepless in Seattle, Somewhere in Time, and Sense and Sensibility. I confess a great fondness for just about anything starring Danny Kaye.  The best Western ever made?   Shane, starring Alan Ladd.  My favorite John Wayne movie? The Quiet Man, co-starring the incomparable Maureen O’Hara.

Favorite Music:

Anything sung by Andrea Bocelli, particularly his exquisite rendition of Nessun Dorma.  I enjoy everything from Isaac Watts and Fanny Crosby to John Denver, Glenn Campbell, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, and Puccini.

Favorite Books:

Man!  That’s like asking a mother which kid is her favorite.  Well, alright.  I confess a great fondness for Margery Williams’ immortal classic, The Velveteen Rabbit. I’m also a big fan of Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat and Mike Mulligan and Mary Anne (don’t tell anyone).  My list of favorite authors is ridiculous, so don’t even ask!  (If you insist, click on Shelfari on my Links.)

Favorite Pairings:

Ralph Kramden & Ed Norton

Lucy & Ethel

Cobb salad with honey mustard dressing

Broiled salmon in dill sauce with bay shrimp

Favorite Places I’ve Never Been:

London, Vienna, and *Tuscany*

My favorite quotes these days:

What no husband of a writer can ever understand is that a writer is working when she’s staring out the window.

  1. Hi,

Thanks for you comment on my blog. It’s fun to visit these sites and learn more about my Comfort Cafe friends. I see that you love classical music. I do too. I would love to hear Andrea Bocelli’s Nessun Dorma. When I was in London a couple years ago I got the opportunity to hear a Vivaldi candlelight concert. It was a real highlight–now you should have been with me on that one!

  2. What a beautiful Bio. I have really enjoyed reading your blog! :)
    It’s so real and comfortable..
For many years, sanctification to me meant separating myself from the unclean. Especially woman who confessed Jesus as Lord but had lives that reflected the opposite. Wow, how the Lord has revealed such blindness in me and how my eyes have opened up to woman who weren’t raised in God fearing homes and who really struggle with purity and denial of this world’s materialism. A whole new world has recently been placed in my lap and I am faced with shedding my high and mighty ideals, for the grace, mercy and kindness that Jesus exemplified while having dinner with tax collectors, touching the leper and not shunning the prostitute. If you remember to pray for me I would so appreciate it. I look forward to coming back and gleaning from your wisdom.. :)

ps wonderful music and movie choices. :)

  3. Hello,

I stopped by for a visit after you left a comment on my blog, Fragrance of Truth.

I enjoyed wandering around to get to “know” you a bit better and discovered we have a few things in common: Christian wives/mothers, bloggers, homeschoolers, lab owners, and Andre Bocelli lovers. Who’da thunk it?

Recently, my family visited the Pacific Northwest and truly loved the area. We especially enjoyed an extended stay at Paradise Inn on Mt. Rainier. (Your photo’s of the cloud formations over it are stunning!) Unfortunately, while we were there it was too overcast to see much of the mountain, but we had fun anyway.

I’m relatively new to the blogging world, so I look forward to ‘meeting’ new friends.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Merry Christmas!

    ~Yvonne

    • Ah yes, Andrea Bocelli is a favorite. His exquisite rendition of Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” brings tears to my eyes. And yeah, the smartest member of my family truly is the dog, Eve. She sort of lets us live in *her* house, which is right considerate of her! :)

Thanks for stopping by. Blessings to you and Merry CHRISTmas!
